Artist's Comments

This is Mr. Andrew Zimmern of Bizarre Foods on the Travel Channel (if you've never seen it, you're missing out!). I love this guy, he'll eat anything you put in front of him...with the possible exception of walnuts and Spam. Hmmm...
Anyway, I wanted this one to have a kind of painted look to it....and cartoony. Dunno if I succeeded or not.
Wacom digital art tablet.... several hours of work.

And the durian...he hates that fruit too! I like the lighting and shadow and what appears to be a brain, definately painted look-- not too cartoony. I love this guy, too. :)

Ah, how could I have forgotten the durian?! Thanks so much for your compliments, Boshaft!!!

I take it my challenge inspired you to work harder and add something to deviantart (finally). I'm glad. I'll have to challenge you more often.

I can see the future. Woops, now it's the present.

Oh how you flatter yourself... Actually, it did in a way. And I love the show...I notice no one else on deviant art has done one of him. Deviant first!!!

He was also defeated by the stinky tofu in that 'House of Unique Stink' restaurant in Taiwan.
:iconccobb1234:
Why yes....yes he was. How can I be a so-called fan without mentioning these things?! That stuff looked downright scary!

I don't like Walnuts either. I think you pulled off that painted affect you were after. His shirt looks like you may have used pastels on it, which is neat. I know its all digital, but it has that "mixed medium" look to it that I love.
:iconccobb1234:
It does, in point of fact, have pastels in there...along with acrylics and airbrush work, too. So (insofar as a digital work can have) I suppose this does qualify as a "mixed medium" work. Thanks toganthus!!!
